In the Spotlight: Meet Mayra Garza

Mayra Garza is a world-renowned reborn doll artist who grew up in a very artistic environment. Gracing us with her expertise in sculpting and doll-making, Mayra continues to help Paradise Galleries in bringing beautiful realistic dolls like Beloved, Trust, and Treasure from our newest newborn bundles Forever Yours collection, and 12" twins Twice Blessed.

Today as we celebrate her talent, take a look at our conversation with her and find out about our sweet offer.

1. How did you get into sculpting?

I have loved dolls all my life, I started sculpting dolls in 2000, when I wanted to make my own.

2. Tell us one fun fact about you that you'd love to share with us!

When I started to sculpt life-size babies, long ago, I went to the store to buy a larger oven to bake the clay sculptures. We were looking for different brands and sizes, then I asked my daughters, "Do you think that a newborn baby would fit inside this oven?"  We were debating about it when we noticed that an employee was behind us listening with a scared expression. Obviously she had no idea how a doll was being made, so I had to explain that I was a doll maker and that I was not intending to bake real babies. It was a funny situation and her expression was priceless! 🤭

3. What inspires you to create beautiful dolls?

Real babies, I love babies!

4. What makes a PG doll special?

The fact that children can play with them. Watching a child hugging or smiling with a doll made by me fills my heart.

5. Among all the PG dolls you've sculpted, which one is your favorite, and why?

I love them all as I put much love in all my creations, but if I have to pick one I would say that Penelope, because she was my first one so it makes her very special.

6. What advice can you give to all doll collectors to avoid getting scammed by sellers and websites stealing artists' doll photos?

My advice is to always buy from reliable sellers, and try to pay through a secure method such as PayPal, so you can claim your money back in case you are scammed. And don’t forget the gold rule: If it is too good to be true, it is because it is not, and most probably it is a scam and you will receive a fake doll.

7. For artists starting their journey in sculpting, what advice can you give to them?

Do not give up and keep trying, practice makes perfect. Always enjoy what you do.

8. A special message to all your PG fans during this unprecedented time.

Think that positive thinking makes difficult times a little easier. With the vaccination program we are in good track to the end of this pandemic. In the meantime, be happy and lets play dolls! I love you all and and God bless you.

As part of our celebration of her talent with us,you will receive double Paradise points for every purchase of any of Mayra's dolls until February 28th, 2021. To learn more about our Loyalty & Rewards, click here.
