An Interview with Pat Moulton
Pat Moulton is no stranger to collectors. Her expressive sculpting style and endearing baby faces have captivated the reborn community for decades. We asked Pat to share a bit of her inspiration and process in bringing Summer Strawberry to life.
What inspired Summer Strawberry's facial expression?
"My inspiration comes from family and friends.
This particular face came from summertime memories with my own children, and seeing the joy that comes from a day at the beach or a family gathering. At that age they just express such excitement at life’s simplest moments."
Can you walk us through your sculpting process? Where do you begin?
"When I start on a new sculpt I look thru pictures of my 3 children and 5 grandchildren from pictures of the past and present. That is how I begin"
How do you feel when you see your sculpt fully completed as a Paradise Galleries doll?
"It is always exciting to see how Paradise Galleries brings my sculpts to life with wonderful outfits and themes. It's the kind of feeling that I get when I am sculpting the face with it, and it all comes together."

Once Pat’s sculpt is complete, it’s up to our in-house designer Elma to imagine a look that captures the spirit of the doll. For Summer Strawberry, Elma drew inspiration from warm-weather playdates, farmers markets, and sweet summer fruits.
How did you land on the theme and styling for Summer Strawberry?
"Strawberries symbolize sweetness, youth, and summertime. We were inspired by the colors and textures of summer—fresh greenery, pastel colors, and sun-kissed skin tones.A soft, playful look, as if she'd spent her days outdoors under the summer sun. It brings a sense of realism and personality to her expression."
Can you describe your process for selecting fabrics, patterns, and trims?
Summer Strawberry's adorable outfit features strawberry patterns, detailed embroidery and gingham prints, chosen to reflect vintage summer fashion. These details make her feel both classic and unique. We wanted to echo a picnic-in-the-garden feel, a combination of gingham with strawberry-print and embroidery onesie, paired with a leaf-topped beanie in strawberry tones.
"We leaned into gentle reds, soft pinks, and creamy whites—tones reminiscent of ripe strawberries and light summer dresses. The colors are both whimsical and soothing.We gave her a lightly sun-kissed complexion with rosy cheeks and warm undertones, adding fine detailing, natural-looking freckles to give her a sun-kissed look and glossed lips to make her appear fresh and vibrant—just like a summer morning."
The bassinet complements the theme with soft linens and strawberry-print , like something you’d find in a quaint cottage or summer garden nursery.
How do you ensure your designs complement the sculpt’s mood and expression?
S"ummer strawberry sculpt has a Happy and energetic expression, we leaned into brighter pastels, fun prints like whimsical gingham, embroidered details with strawberry print that feels handmade, sweet tones that match the doll’s skin tone and enhance realism. A smiling baby in a playful onesie is always ready to play."

Embroidered Perfection
Her "Berry Sweet" outfit is embroidered with 7,515 stitches. A commercial embroidery machine takes around 10 minutes per embroidery when you account for thread changes and color stops. That means before your doll is even dressed, skilled hands and machines have spent time ensuring every detail is picture-perfect.
Hand-Painted Realism
Summer Strawberry is hand-painted with love in every detail. Her cheeks are blushed and freckled, her lips shine with realism, and her delicate fingernails and toenails are hand-painted to mimic the subtle shine and color of real baby nails. This step is done with the same care as fine art—layer by layer—for an ultra-realistic finish.
Rooted Hair Magic
Summer Strawberry’s soft strawberry-blonde hair is meticulously rooted to ensure the most realistic look. This process involves inserting strands of mohair into her vinyl scalp one by one using a fine-gauge needle. Rooted hair allows for gentle styling and adds an incredibly lifelike touch collectors love.
